INTRODUCING THE GLOBAL SEARCH FEATURE
One of the feedbacks on our GUI was that accessing certain operator or aircraft profiles takes more steps than before. We’ve decided to work on that and are happy to introduce the new “Google-style” search field. It enables you to navigate our website faster and search for any data available on ch-aviation, bypassing the traditional searches via Operator or Aircraft search. The news stories linked to your search will now appear on the left side of the results, while all relevant data points will appear on the right.
Global Search Guide
Here is a short guide on how to utilise the Global Search the best:
Prefix Search:
- Our search engine uses the prefix search principle, which compares search queries to the beginning of each term in the database. This implies that you don’t have to input the complete term to discover news items, operators, or airports; only the first two characters are enough to initiate the search.
- When there are many words in the search query, a prefix search is done on the final word, which means that previous words must be spelt out completely to receive correct results.
Examples:
Query: croa OR croatia air
Results: news articles mentioning Croatia Airlines
Typos:
- We will try to deliver relevant results, even if the spelling of the search query is not 100% correct. We will try to guess the objective if there are misspelt words, dropped letters, swapped letters, etc.
An example:
Query: coratia airlnes
Results: news articles mentioning Croatia Airlines
Phrase searching:
- If search phrases are enclosed in double quotations (“”), we will return items that include those terms in the order they were entered.
- If you’re looking for a certain aircraft registration and don’t want to receive results that include any of the letters in the registration, type the registration into ” “.
Examples:
Query: croatia airlines “LHR slots”
Results: news articles containing LHR slots, but those mentioning Croatia Airlines are preferred
or
Query: “YL-CSN”
Results: news articles and profile of that specific aircraft
Negative search:
- Using minus (-) in front of a word or phrase will exclude it from the results
An example:
Query: croatia airlines -route
Results: news articles mentioning Croatia Airlines, but no route network changes or any that mention a route
